Beaches

The greatest gift that nature bestowed in the province of Sitia are the beaches. One of the most characteristic beaches of Sitia province are: 


  • THE PALM FOREST OF VAI
 
Is one of the most popular sights in Crete and one of the most beautiful and special places in the whole Mediterranean.Vai beach has fine golden sand and pebbles at its north end.

  • ITANOS BEACH
 
Itanos beaches are located 2 km north from Palm beach Vai The sandy beach of Erimoupolis. There is another longer sandy beach that you can get to - on foot - over the low hill to your left, where the main road stops.

  • KATO ZAKROS
 
The settlement of Kato Zakros, is a most impressive small fishing village, hidden away in the southeast corner of Crete, behind a beautiful tamarind-fringed beach.

  • KOUREMENOS - HIONA
 

Kouremenos is the longest beach of Palekastro area. It is sandy and the bottom is ideal for divers. The lovers of windsurfing are attracted by it, as it is famous all around Europe for this sport.

Hiona beach is 300 m long and you can enjoy the rest under the shade of the tamarisks.The sandy sea bottom slopes gently, making swimming safe even for the youngest holidaymakers.

  • MAKRI GIALOS
 
Makry Gialos is a famous seaside resort in southeast Crete. The name MakrI Gialos (Long Beach) reveals its main advantage, as it is actually a large bay with a beautiful sandy beach over a kilometre long.

  • GOUDOURAS
 
Goudouras is a coastal village located in a large valley surrounded by the rugged mountains and canyons of the area. Along the seaside village road stretches a large pebbly beach with clean and cool water.

  • XEROKAMBOS
 
Xerokambos is located in an untouched region. Mountains, olive groves and magnificent isolated beaches make up the breathtaking scenery. Xerokambos boasts probably the finest beaches in the area and is ideal for those seeking peace, quiet and relaxation.

  • BEACH OF SITIA
 
Organized beach with sun beds, umbrellas (for a fee) and showers near to the town of Sitia. The beach and the sea floor are partly sandy and partly with small pebbles.

  • MOCHLOS BEACH
 
Mochlos is a traditional village situated 150m opposite the islet of St. Nicholas with the homonym chapel, which is a very important archaeological site. The village retains the traditional elements of Crete intact and is an ideal destination for a relaxing holiday. Along the coastal road of the village there are a few taverns and cafes where you can enjoy fresh fish and your drinks.
